Driving Catalogue Production for Education Publisher Hachette Learning

Managing the production of both print and digital marketing catalogues across primary, secondary, and further education titles.

A sampling of mocked-up pages from Hachette Learning catalogues, including from Mathematics, Science, History and Psycholoy and Sociology, laid out on a light blue background.

About this project

Hachette Learning is on a mission to be at the forefront of educational publishing – innovative, compliant, and always connected to their audience.

Our long-term partnership with the Hachette Learning marketing team has seen us work on everything from advertising campaigns to consultancy and strategy.

A key part of this is managing the ambitious production of numerous detailed, multi-page marketing catalogues across primary, secondary, and further education (FE) subjects, reducing the effort and time spent on this important project for the client.

The Challenge

Hachette Learning set out to produce a high number of professional catalogues simultaneously, in both print and digital formats, enabling educators to browse and choose titles with confidence. Spanning subjects from primary to further education – including Maths, Science, Languages, Economics, Psychology, Law, Drama and many more – the project demanded both scale and precision.

Each catalogue contains detailed product information, multiple page layouts (some reaching 90 pages in length), key points to be communicated, resources to link and calls-to-action to spotlight. The challenge lay in combining everything to deliver an accessible, engaging resource that schools could rely on – and creating a repeatable production timeline to deliver year-on-year.

Hachette Learning also underwent a rebrand in 2025, meaning that the 2026 catalogues needed to be redesigned in line with the new visual identity.

Comprehensive coverage spanning three key educational stages.

Dual-format delivery across numerous subjects, including Maths, Science, Languages, Economics, Psychology, Law, Drama & more).

Our Approach

To kick-start the project, we collaborated with the team to define a clear creative brief for each catalogue. Once the briefs were in place, we began work translating the approved plans into fully-designed pages.

Due to the turnaround of multiple catalogues within one production cycle, we needed a frictionless review process. Incorporating rounds of proofreading and design reviews into the schedule from the outset meant that fast, efficient turnarounds were possible, while regular status updates kept the Hachette Learning team in the loop without pulling them into the finer details.

The Result

Our collaboration enabled Hachette Learning to launch their print and digital catalogues with a faster turnaround time than previous years, meaning the internal marketing team was able to progress with other key product marketing projects.

By putting a comprehensive production process in place for the initial round of catalogues, and owning the entire workflow – from managing suppliers, designers, and the end-to-end production – we have been able to iterate on this complex process, creating a seamless experience.

We continue to support Hachette Learning with campaign strategy, data-led advertising that delivers measurable ROI, compelling copywriting, and striking creative assets. We also use our industry expertise to advise on evolving audience expectations.

“Maykn managed our entire catalogue production process, providing end-to-end project management and coordinating design, proofreading, and stakeholder communications across both internal and external teams. Catalogue production is one of our most complex and resource-intensive projects, requiring significant planning and coordination.

By working closely with Maykn, we were able to successfully deliver these essential catalogues while allowing our marketing team to remain focused on other key strategic initiatives.”
